First off, you could not be sued for libel for posting something on Craigslist. Second, posting this on Craigslist would be lost in the myriad of posts so quickly no one would notice, so his business would be barely effected. The construction/repair/handyman,etc. industries are ripe with scammers. If you don't use a credible business, you'll pay less up front, but the job likely will not be done right and you'll end up having more problems and spending more down the road than if you went with a known company that costs a little more up front.

Franklin, you've posted a lot of misinformation over the past few days! Yes, you can be sued for libel for posting false or defamatory information about a person or business on Craigslist which causes them financial or other damage. Libel is defined as defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures.

No, you can't. There is no way to prove where it came from with any certainty. No judge is going to look at a post on Craigslist and hold up any suit for libel. It'd be tossed. I'd love one case where libel was granted from a post on Craigslist. Google it. All I see are people laughing at those cases getting thrown out.
