I use a licensed process server instead of the sheriff. My process server, Jim A.,that I have had over 15 years and have served countless summons, complaints, rule to show causes' gets the job done!One of young gentlemen that we couldn't get served, the next door neighbor says "He is at the bar LT's around the block usually on the 4th barstool". Jim went to the bar and served the young gentlemen.

what state are you in? In PA, we seldom have to serve the person - just tack the notice up on the door.
