Higher Security Deposit for Younger Tenants by Jimmy (Illinois) on August 16, 2012 @01:23

In Illinois, there is no maximum amount for a security deposit a landlord can request. However, is there any kind of discrimination law that that prohibits landlords from requesting 2 security deposits for prospective tenants that are 25 years of age and under?

The market conditions will probably would probably prohibit you from charging a double security deposit. What is normal for your area?

Repeat after me, It's the lack of rental history and job history that triggers the higher deposit, not their age!

Yes there are very strong discrimination laws in most states. you can charge more as the previous poster stated for legal reasons. Age is not one of them.
