One Shot Deal Program in NY by Bunny (NY) on October 5, 2012 @10:59

Does anyone know where I (LL) can find information about the One Shot Deal Program in Suffolk County, NY? I was only able to locate information for the NY City program. I want to learn about the program before I consider accepting potential tenants. This program supposedly pays the first months rent, security and brokers fee.

This is done through the county dept of social services.

My understanding is that this is a 'needs' based program.
The tenant that qualifies would be the one who would be able to Sect. 8, but the waiting list goes on forever.

Do you want a tenant that cannot pay to move in?
Do you want a tenant that cannot afford the rent?

You can find out more about rental assistance in Suffolk by contacting Department of Social Services http://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/departments/socialservices.aspx

Another helpful contact would be Community Development Corp (CDC) of Long Island who provide vouchers to potential tenants and could help you become an approved landlord. http://www.cdcli.org/

Please do not share information that you have no facts to support. The "One Shot Deal" is NOT "need based", anyone in Suffolk County is eligible to use the program ONE TIME-hence the name. Implying that tenants who look to use this program can not or will not be able to pay their rent is downright insulting. It is NOT Section 8-which IS income based, and you must make under a certain amount to qualify. The only thing needed to qualify for the One Shot Deal is a willing landlord....which is nearly impossible due to people such as yourself spreading false information to prospective landlords. FYI-my family and I are currently searching for a home using the One Shot Deal, and MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS. Keep your opinions and answers to yourself until you educate yourself on the topic.
