For any other readers don't ever do anything that this person did. They are paying the owner to increase the value of their property and getting nothing in return except sickness. Never put any money into a rental unit that you don't own. If the landlord balks at paying for something that you feel you really need then move out. The person that penned the above novel made themselves sick and in-debt for seven years to help somebody they didn't know.
