Please do not share information that you have no facts to support. The "One Shot Deal" is NOT "need based", anyone in Suffolk County is eligible to use the program ONE TIME-hence the name. Implying that tenants who look to use this program can not or will not be able to pay their rent is downright insulting. It is NOT Section 8-which IS income based, and you must make under a certain amount to qualify. The only thing needed to qualify for the One Shot Deal is a willing landlord....which is nearly impossible due to people such as yourself spreading false information to prospective landlords. FYI-my family and I are currently searching for a home using the One Shot Deal, and MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS. Keep your opinions and answers to yourself until you educate yourself on the topic.

Lauren, I appreciate your honesty and valuable information regarding this but you did not really explain how one get assistance in this area. I need to know where one would start for this process? Is there an application? Do I go down to my local social services? I am in search for my friend and I have no idea where to begin.

Yes Go to the local Dept of social services EARLY in the morning. Bring all the information about the new apartment has it been inspected? Birth certificates of everyone to live in the apartment, social security cards etc. proof of usa residency. bring proof of income, if on section 8 bring your voucher...if on food stamps bring proof of monthly amount. Any bills you pay...MAKE COPIES FOR THE CLERK.. It will take about a week so be prepared. You will be told what finances you give and what is matched ....hope it helps...
