Weeds by Myself and I (Virginia) on April 14, 2014 @20:47

Okay I am very busy with work right now, on a deadline and I just got a message from my landlord that if I do not pull the weeds they will have them pulled at my expense. Can they really do this? I am 2 days from my deadline and this seems like harassment. They honestly are lucky I even had it mowed last weekend. Can someone help me with is?

I believe we are so expertly being trolled with this one and the one about the disabled Vet. Next we will have the poster come in with more impossible details and a claim that he is not a troll.

If you signed a lease to take care of the lawn, then that is what you need to do. The LL doesn't care what you do with your time, as long as you do what you are supposed to do according to your lease. You sound like someone who needs to be in an apartment setting, where you don't have any outside upkeep. If you don't have the time to take care of the lawn, YOU can always hire a lawn service to take care of it for you.(at your expense).

I understand completely about the deadline. When I'm on deadline, I don't have time for anything else. BUT, you need to make plans ahead of time so that things like this are taken care of when you aren't able to do them yourself.

Tell the landlord that you are tied up at work, but will take care of the weeds by the end of the week. Then, be true to your word--if the project runs over and you can't do it yourself, then hire someone to take care of it. If you have a responsible neighbor of high school age, they would probably be happy for the work at $10 or so an hour.

Good luck with your project.

Skip a mowing, and spend the time getting the weeds pulled. How high can the grass be in this weather?

Or hire someone to do it for you, if you are too busy.

Yes, they can do this, and it would be cheaper for you to find someone then they will to addresss the weeds.

Lol. Okay so it looks like everyone except for maybe one missed the point. I was the first on the block to mow. My "weeds" equate to 3. 3 weeds. In a garden bed which has NO landscape fabric NO barrier between the grass and the flowerbed and ridiculus huge mulch which loves to fly up and smack you should you attempt to use a weedwacker or mower to get close to it.
My point was my lawn is not "unkept" but rather my landlord's wife enjoys driving around and texting tenants about stupid stuff that is not even close to being out of control. But thank you all so much for assuming I am simply to lazy to do it. I was asking from a legal standpoint.
