Re: Gas man - Landlord Forum thread 317503

The gas company I deal with will only turn gas on to the house, and possibly light the easiest pilot light. The landlord is responsible for lighting the rest of the pilots. This is because they blew a house off its foundation, and damaged the house next to it by leaving the gas stove leaking gas into a closed house all day. The guy came home, smelled gas, shut the door, and went next door to the neighbors to call the gas company. Before he got through to the gas company, the house blew up, part of it came off the foundation , and debris damaged siding on the other neighbor's house. Until this happened, they would light all the pilots for my rental properties. The gas company employee made a huge mistake that day. Now the rule is they have to have someone home, of legal age, in order to turn the service on.

Assuming you are the original poster (OP) of this story, What does this have to do with YOU not knowing where the furnace and water heater is, and the access to them ?? You expect the person from the gas co. to not know this, which is another reason they want to meet you there. But the owner has NO EXCUSE to NOT know where they are.
