Re: House smells like sweat - Landlord Forum thread 321937

Re: House smells like sweat by Anonymous on July 28, 2014 @12:54

I have a similar problem. My prior tenants used a deep fryer and apparently spilled some of the used oil in the kitchen somewhere, and also two big stains of it on the garage floor. Also they threw the fryer away, full of oil, in the city supplied automated pickup trash bin. The bottom of the bin is full of this oil. I hate the smell.

So I have to play detective and find the spill in the kitchen, somehow remove the stinky stains from the garage floor (bleach?) and safely get the oil out of the trash container, dispose of the oil safely, and clean and deodorize the can. They also melted the vinly siding with their Bar-B-Q grille. Their SD is going to pay for all this!

How about taking the big trash can to the serve-yourself car wash?
Maybe the garbage disposal is harboring the smell?

Great ideas, thank you. But I don't have a truck to take it to the car wash. Its a 90 gallon bin.

A lot of fastfood restaurants have an outside grease trap that gets emptied every so often, where do you think they drain the oil when they replace their deep fryers? It's gallons of the stuff, I used to work at a fast food place. You might be able to sweet talk your way into getting access to it. Or see if someone who has a grease running vehicle might want it, if it hasn't been too contaminated with water. try craigslist.

Last resort solution is to put it in containers and drop a few off at every auto parts place in your area that accepts people's used motor oil, they won't know the difference.

Safely? It is vegetable oil not dinosaur oil.

Sprinkle cornstarch to absorb any remaining oil then wash with Spic & Span or similar product.
