Well, I went there and they didn't even bother to throw stuff out of the fridge. So, they didn't even empty stuff out of cabinets and fridge, but just left it. There is beer, condiments and a ton of misc stuff in the fridge and half filled and expired food in the cupboards. It is a mess. The baths have not been cleaned. I did give them a list for pre and post inspection. It just seems that out of the four of them, they think if they moved out early the last person to leave was stuck with the responsibility. Also, there are five empty jugs of laundry detergent in the basement and misc crap. I can't see how they can think this is OK.

I did have a clear discussion about cleaning when one of the roommates moved out mid-way. Thus, I am shocked at the mess.

Thanks.

photo document everything before you clean. Document all damage and cost of cleaning. Good luck

Very sorry to hear they left you with such a mess. But you've written about these tenants before, and I remember you saying how sloppy and lazy they were. So, it's really unfortunate that they left you such a mess, but I guess not that surprising.

Do as Jannie said, and document the mess thoroughly before you clean it. Then charge their deposits for whatever it takes to restore the place to the move-in condition. And be sure to get the settlement statements sent out within the time allowed by your state.

Good luck.
