That's the basis of any rental -- a landlord charges rent because he can. Any rent. So what's your point? You think there's some morality involved in the level of rent a landlord asks, or how it is labelled, or what he does with it? You must be crazy!

No, Bill's a tenant. It doesn't matter if you charge rent per occupant, per pet, per bedroom, or per size of rental property. There's no moral aspect to any of it, it's simply a matter of how much risk does the landlord undertake for how much compensation. End of story. Of course tenants like Bill don't like it, but they should get their own property and see how much risk they want to take with it. Meanwhile, they have to pay to stay.

Sounds like someone else posing as Bill, probably Al. 'Pick the tenant's pocket' was some crap that Al(CT) used to repeat all the time.

I used to repeat it because I agreed with Bill about it. I have pets. I have never rented from a place that has wanted to charge extra pet rent. Extra deposit? Yes, which has always been returned because my pets don't tear the place up.

Impersonations are best left to those who wish to remain anonymous. I have no need or desire to pretend I'm Bill of all people.
