Application form - tax forms - Landlord Forum thread 323126

Application form - tax forms by Anonymous (MA) on August 20, 2014 @14:24

Hello - do you ask for SIGNED tax forms for prospective tenants?
Or is it okay to accept an unsigned copy of a 1014 or just the first page of a 1014 ( thus with no signature)?

I mean a 1040 (sorry!)

If they file electronically it will not be signed. At the very least you need the first two pages of their 1040. Unless they file a 1040 EZ.

You could request that they get a copy from the IRS which will have official IRS markings on it. Or maybe you could file a 4506T, with their signature, and get the copy from the IRS yourself.

lenders all require an actual wet signature on the document copy that is provided, whether electronically filed or not. I'm guessing that is some type process for "fraud evidence".
