Do not pay the landlord anything. Not even a cent. When you get your security settlement deposit statement take him to court and make him justify each and ever dollar he deducted. It is the only way you are going to keep this landlord out of your pocket.

I am scared that if I know things were broken when I moved in (and even if they weren't due to depreciation I should only pay partial replacement not full replacement due to depreciation after 7 years), if I do not have proof I do not want to damage my credit score. Is there a risk I would lose and damage my credit score? Would the court show up on my credit report?

In the future I would make sure to have the landlord also sign the damages form and to keep a copy for my records but I didn't retain a copy as the landlord didn't arouse suspicions when I moved in and it was so long ago.
