It's not her house...I mean, from what I understand, she owns the house but does not reside there.

Depending on the circumstance, still, check out Airbnb. If you can furnish a space you own, even if you aren't living there at the moment, then why not make money on short term rentals? If you live in a place like New York or San Fran, those people are making money hand over fist, renting apartments, furnishing them, then putting them on Airbnb. If you live in a podunk town, then it's not worth letting a place stand empty, furnished, utilities going for only a handful of short term tenants a year.

BTW, all of you might want to look on Airbnb and see if your own tenant is renting out your property. Plenty of tenants have been evicted over this already for renting out what they don't own.

This works if you are in a desirable location (easy subway or train from manhattan, walking distance to a beach, etc). But in a bad area or a low income area without attractions you will have a tough time

I rent by the week in Florida. BUT, only one week a month and for a special event that fills the entire town. During that one week you could not beg, borrow, or steal a room in town. I have a really nice place that I handle like an upscale hotel suite...complete with stocked frige, laundry/housekeeping, and fresh flowers. BUT...the rest of the time I don't bother because I know there isn't any reason anyone would rent from me except low income that cannot rent monthly ... And I don't want them in my condo.

Thank you so much for the comment about tenants renting out rooms on Airbnb.... I never would have thought they would have the bxxxs to do that!!
