Does anyone know what sex offender rights are as far as being a tenant? My husband is a level 2 sex offender. The apartment complex we live in now all the sudden switched our lease to a month to month and recently just told us to leave. We have a 6 year old daughter. During the past year, nobody has had issues with us, we pay rent on time but our neighbor decided to go door to door to let everyone know about my husband, even stateing what was on the registry. I just dont understand why all of the sudden were getting kicked out. Should we get a lawyer?

You are not being "kicked out". Only a judge can order an eviction.

You have received a normal notice to end the tenancy. With the normal notice period allowed for a month-to-month tenant. Nothing the least unusual about it.

Now, as to why the landlord does not extend the tenancy from this month...you may be right about the reason. Still, it makes no difference..the landlord does not even have to have a reason to give a tenant notice to move at the end of the term (in one month in the case of month to month)

Find a new place and get moved.

sex offender does have a right to sleep somewhere in the night, and now is the time to call the best lawyer in the world

Being a registered sex offender is not covered by anti-discrimination laws. It is not a protected characteristic. In most states, a landlord can refuse to rent to an offender who reveals his or her status in an application or if the offender’s status is uncovered in a criminal background check.

'Risk Level 2 offenders present a moderate risk to the community and they have a higher likelihood of re-offending than level 1 offenders. They are considered an increased risk to re-offend because of the nature of their previous crime(s) and lifestyle (drug and alcohol abuse and other criminal activity). Some have refused to participate or failed to complete approved treatment programs. They may have more than one victim and the abuse may be long term. These offenders usually groom their victims and may use threats to commit their crimes. These crimes may be predatory with the offender using a position of trust to commit their crimes.'

Your landlord has exersize their right not to renew your lease.

Whether you are a landlord or a convicted sex offender, a good lawyer will be able to advise you of your rights and duties.
