I agree with Bill. Telling him that you are going to end the agreement that early raises the chance that they are going to treat your apartment like crap for the next six months. Read your lease and see what the mandatory minimum amount of time is to end the lease. Usually its a month. Send it certified mail at that time. Don't give people the chance to do the wrong thing. If you do they will usually let you down.

I agree- I would not tell the tenant this far in advance that the lease wasn't going to be renewed -- has the potential to cause uncomfortable situation. Usually it's a month. They know when the lease is suppose to end, I would let them know month or whatever is state requirement as other said certified mail.
