Puppy would be a doodiezu. We would be fine paying more rent or deposit etc. But that wasn't brought up. Only that the insurance would be increased and they didn't want the policy to change.

As posted above:

I offered to pay the difference in the insurance fee. What I am trying to find out is if that is true or not. That the landlord would be charged more for having a puppy here. From what I read on the Internet, it should charge my renters insurance, not theirs. .

Don't get me wrong. I don't think our landlord is trying to get money out of us at all. We have a good relationship. I am simply trying to find out if anyone has experienced their homeowners insurance increasing because their tenant had a puppy.

A doodiezu shouldn't increase his insurance. Saying that I don't know what his insurance company says about dogs. They may charge extra in case your doodiezu goes crazy and bites the entire neighborhood. Some areas allow the victim (if this were to happen) to not only sue the owner of the pet but the LL that allowed the renter to have the pet. In my experience this is only applicable when someone has a breed that is labeled as aggressive (pit bulls etc.). A doodiezu shouldn't fall under these categories. When you offered to pay the difference what was your LL's response? Seems reasonable to me. Or he may be trying to brush it off because he does not want to be controversial with you since you have a good relationship.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your advice. I asked the LL what the increase would be and offered to pay. they just responded that it would be a lot and they didn't want to change the coverage. That is fair enough, but I want to find out if the LL actually looked into it or is maybe misinformed.

Sounds to me he does not want you to have the pet and he is using this to drop the issue. Since you have a good relationship it may be difficult for him to just say no so he is taking the wrong path and using an excuse to prevent the pet from being put into the house. You're better off waiting to get the dog when you can find a new place.

Jasmine, your original question is really irrelevant. It is really none of your business about his insurance policy. How do you expect hundreds of landlords in 50 states to know the specifics of his particular policy? What difference does it make? Since he has made it clear that he doesn't want to change his coverage just let it go. You know you can teach a pig to sing, but you annoy the pig and waste your time.
