If a person knocks over quite a few mailboxes in the neighborhood, and is caught, does the car insurance cover the cost of the mailboxes? I had three taken down at my rental property. Several of the neighbors lost their boxes as well. I was told the police report will be available some time next week. We don't yet know if the car he used was even insured.

All you can do is sue the person who caused the damage. IF he had insurance, he can ask the his ins.co. to help pay for the damage. But most ins. co. won't pay for acts of deliberate vandalism. And even if they would pay, the damages would need to be higher than his deductable. You also need to figure out if it's worth your time and money to take him to court. Even if you win a judgment in court, it's still up to you to try to collect on it. If I were you, I would just replace the mail boxes at your expense, and take the amount off your 2014 income taxes.
