Vulgar Super - Landlord Forum thread 327533

Vulgar Super by Kristina (Bronx, NY) on November 17, 2014 @15:51

I am not a regular tenant in my building but a shelter client, However the super that works for this building is so disrespectful and degrading of women. He talks to women here in such a nasty way (he's even had his maintenance crew talk to women in Vulgar manners) he has also stolen from shelter clients and his regular tenants as well as his maintenance crew.. How can I as a shelter client draw up a petition against him? His boss know's of all the choas and ways he has talked and continues to talk to people (he's even threathen not only women but children of certain shelter clients that live here as well. How many signatures will it take for a petition to be taking serious? Will a petition be even taking serious although a shelter client(s) have drawn it up? Is there certain things that need to be put on the petition for it to be drawn up and giving out? Do we have to issue it to not only the super but his boss as well?. Please help me with some type of answers to what I can do. It already is at a point to where him and a woman in the shelter got into an almost physical altercation this morning in front of her child.. Thank you so very much in advance for any information you can provide me with.

This is definitely Katiekate territory.

I'll say though, if someone is stealing from you, you call the cops. Simple. Otherwise you are making things up. Legitimate people call the police when they are being harassed or stolen from, fakes do not.

Contact your local HUD office, go from there.

You are in a temporary shelter situation. Your quickest and best solution is to move up out of the shelter by making the best use of all resources available to you, rather than sitting complacently on your hindquarters and soaking up the benefits (not saying you do, but I get a real feeling of entitlement when I read your post).

Petitions will do you no good. You and any other tenants/shelter clients that are having these same problems, need to contact your local Civil Rights commission, and file a formal written complaint with them. Once you file , by law, they HAVE to investigate the complaint. But don't expect things to happen very fast. The C.R. comm. has up to 4 months to start your case once you file, and must finish it within 1 year. You and the others must put everything in writing, and probably have to do taped interviews with the investigators. If your complaints are found to be true, the C.R. comm. can levy heavy fines against the owner, and his employees. The federal laws also protect you from being retaliated against.

Draw up the petition. Have all of the Shelter Clients sign it along with whoever else will. Present the petition to your Shelter caseworker. Keep a copy. In the petition, state the desired outcome...like to contact the building owner and appropriate government agency.
