Consider that the landlord died as your notice. It is going to be a cold winter without any gas. You still have to pay rent. What all of you need to do right now is to start looking for a new place and be out by the end of the year.
If you do not want to get wrapped up in an eviction and arrest for theft, you need to get out as soon as possible. Going forward nothing good his going to happen.

This is not true. The Estate honours the lease.
The People's Law Library of Maryland sums it up the best:
"Unless the lease provides otherwise, the death of a tenant or landlord does not terminate the lease and does not terminate the responsibilities under the lease. Thus, the landlord’s successor continues as landlord and a tenant’s estate becomes responsible for lost rent if the tenant’s heirs end the lease."

Please stop responding to Bill
He has proven he is the forum troll.
He knows nothing but likes to hold out like he is the ultimate source of information. His posts are usual wrong.
Please stop responding to Bill, he will just throw flames if you do.
