This is not true. The Estate honours the lease.

The People's Law Library of Maryland sums it up the best:

"Unless the lease provides otherwise, the death of a tenant or landlord does not terminate the lease and does not terminate the responsibilities under the lease. Thus, the landlord’s successor continues as landlord and a tenant’s estate becomes responsible for lost rent if the tenant’s heirs end the lease."
