Re: Is is OK for tenants to store weapons in the house - Landlord Forum thread 327747

I'd guess the different responses in this thread mainly have to do with the posters comfort level with guns themselves and their own thoughts on gun control, not on actual liability.

I grew up with guns in the house. All my cousins grew up with guns in their homes. When I married he kept a shot gun by the kitchen door to shoot whatever may have happened to be passing through the yard or eating his tomato plants. My children all have guns. My two oldest grandchildren (only 9 years old) received guns for their birthdays this year.

Proper instruction and education go a long way to eliminate unreasonable fear of accidental shootings.

Keeping an unsecured weapon by the kitchen door is irresponsible. Proper education is important, yes, but 9 years old is probably way too young to start gifting guns to people. It should be saved until they are old enough to legally 'own' it themselves.

I don't agree. I don't allow guns in my rentals but I am comfortable with them. We had guns in the house when I was growing up. My mother has a concealed carry permit and packs every day. I was in the military and learned to use one. But, I know there are lots of possibly uninformeds out there who own guns and have never been trained in their proper use. And there are plenty of people who own guns and are careless with their storage and usage.
