Yes, you definitely need to change locks. If you know how to do it yourself, then buy a lock set today, if you already know what kind/brand of set is on there now, and change them in the afternoon tomorrow, after the Sheriff has given you back possession. Do not try to do it when everyone is carrying things out the door to the curb. You will just be in their way, and they in yours. A combo handle and deadbolt lock set will take you maybe 20-30 min. per door if its an easy switch-out. If you do find you need a locksmith, schedule him for later in the afternoon tomorrow, or even the next day. Most evicted Ts are not likely to try to get back in, because they know all their stuff is on the curb. And if they wanted to do damage to your property, they will have already done it this weekend. If a lot of stuff is put out to the curb, be prepared to watch the next 2 days as neighbors converge to take any good things home with them that are left.

This is bad advice

Do not put the tenants possessions on the street. In most states the landlord is responsible for the safe keeping of these items for at least 30 days. If you put them on the street and the neighbors carry it all away...you will find a court judge ordering you to pay $5,000 in damages (the limit of small claims court).
In FL can put belongings on the curb. by Shaun (Fl) on December 17, 2014 @12:19 [ Reply ]

We don't put belongings on the curb, because all the "Looky Lous" scattered it and dig through it. Waste Pro doesn't pick it up unless it is in a can. Second I don't like to show a property with all the junk sitting by the driveway. So move it once to the flatbed, take it to the dump and bill the SD for our time and mileage.

Could you please name 10 states that have this law, so we can check it out to see if you are correct ? What you say, may be true in certain situations, but I doubt it in a full-blown eviction setting.

You are free to look this up yourself. No one here works for you!

Among the states that require a duty to store are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington and Wisconsin. State statutes impose on landlords a duty to store a tenant's property for a certain period of time after eviction, ranging from three to forty-five days.
