visitors? - Landlord Forum thread 330109

visitors? by Samantha (pa) on January 19, 2015 @13:39

my boyfriend has recently been staying with me overnight. My landlord told me he's not allowed to move in and have to leave immediately, I was wondering what the legal length of time I can have an overnight visitor is before he can legally tell me he has to go.

Also I have asked my landlord numerous times for a copy of my lease and he has still not provided it. If I do not have a lease at the current moment can he even legally tell me my boyfriend has to leave?

If your boyfriend wants to shack up at your place, he needs to get on the lease and pay his portion of the rent. Otherwise, you need to spend an equal number of nights at his place per week. Why wouldn't you?

If you like where you are living you will need to do as your landlord advises. Otherwise you landlord will evict the both of you. That is the long and the short of it.

I have to agree with Rex. Your 2 posts tell me that you dislike authoritative figures, and you want to have everything your own way. By trying to nitpick your way around the landlords orders, either both of you will soon be evicted,or at the very least, the LL will not renew your lease, and you will have to move out at the end of it. Try this: have your BF fill out an app and give it to the LL. If he OKs it, he can probably stay. But all of you would need to make out a new lease at probably a little bit higher rent. If the LL doesn't approve your BF, then either he needs to go, or you BOTH will need to find a new place SOON. LLs are human, too, and we can get ticked off at Ts just like you get ticked off at LLs. So lose your attitude, and find some common ground with your LL.
