Ex-tenant debt collection - Landlord Forum thread 330199

Ex-tenant debt collection by Vic (NJ) on January 21, 2015 @19:35

hi,

an ex-tenant owes me a couple of grand and I have the judgement.

1. How do I find out their current mailing address?
2. Do I hand this over to collection agency or pursue on my own? WIll collection agency be able to trace them down and share the information with me?

One thing to be sure to do. Make sure the court gets the judgment on their credit report.

If your lease application has the right wording you can pull a new credit report. Or you could check with the post office to and request their forwarding address. Or you could call the personal references listed on their lease application and ask them for the new address, Tell them you forgot to send them some money!

Also, I think the LPA has some articles on collecting back rent.

I seriously doubt the collection agency will accept your hand out.
