Need advice: Returning to property management - Landlord Forum thread 331714

Need advice: Returning to property management by LandlordToBe (Florida (Tampa/Clearwater)) on March 3, 2015 @17:25

I was looking for some insight/advice from some experienced Floridian Property Managers.

About 20 years ago, I worked for several Property Management companies in Wisconsin. Over a 5 year period, I worked as Leasing Agent, Assistant Property Manager, and then Property Manager. I was involved in rentals for college students, families, and independent living (55+). After those 5 years, I ended up relocating to the Tampa/Clearwater area in Florida and decided to change my career another interest, Information Technology. Recently, I have become disillusioned with IT work and am seriously considering going back to Property Management (with the goal of starting to invest in my own property in the next few years).

At this point, I am looking for some good resources to get my head back in the game, but could use some direction on what to look for such as what licensing (if any) is needed to work as an agent in Florida, good websites to study up on standard leasing practices, as well as good sources for finding employment.

Again, any advice or good information sources any Florida landlords could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think you have to be RE Broker in FL to manage properties other than your own.
I am pretty sure you can work under a FL RE Broker as a property manager.

As Mr. Dan stated join the Tampa / Clearwater area Chapter.

Thank you for the advice. I will take a look at those two sites.
