Our elderly tenant recently died unexpectedly, he was single but had his adult son living with him who works part time and can not afford the rent.. The rent was paid for month of March- our lease was with the deceased. Is there a grace period for the family member(s) to move out? Who is responsible to remove the belongings? What are the landlords responsibilities in this matter?

You have a tenant -- the son and the estate. Both are entitled to notice to terminate the tenancy (assuming no lease), or a pay or quit notice, depending on what happens April 1st. There's no grace to move out the deceased's property; if his property remains in the rental, rent must be paid (either by his estate or his relatives).

Let's assume the decedent is bequeathing no money. A lease is not with an estate unless it was written that way. You can let the son stay until the end of the rent. Now you should give written notice that son will have to move out or fill out an application to rent. The son has to move belongings out unless somebody else intervenes with relevant info.
