Roommate threatening to sue - Landlord Forum thread 356210

Roommate threatening to sue by Anonymous on February 18, 2018 @14:09

A roommate of mines moved out a month ago. She claims that we owe her money for a bill but we had already paid our portions for and she added on a cost. We asked for verification of the add ons, however she hasn’t given any verification and declines to. Keep in mind that she also owes us for bills (dated of when she still lived on the property, we have given her proof and she fails to pay) she is now threatening to send us to small claims. Any advice on what we should do?

Wait to see if she take you to court. If she files, then counter sue her. Un-less you are going to file for the money you said she owed.

She is probably just trying to scare you about filing for your claim of money due from her.

If you are going to chase the money down then file to go to court. Other wise I would just forget it. Getting a judgment is not money until you collect it.

I agree with everything John said. And I would add 1 thing more. She no longer lives with you, so STOP ALL CONTACT with her. DO NOT phone, text, or email her. If she tries to contact you, DO NOT ANSWER BACK. Only answer a letter from the courts if one comes to you. There are TONS of people out there that threaten to sue someone, but only about 5% ever actually follow thru with it.

If I had a nickel for every time someone threatened to sue, I'd have a whole lot of nickels. lol

I tell them, "do what you have to do, just make sure you spell my name right".

Number of times sued = 0
