You can not be held financially responsible unless you've either signed a document specifying payment to the landlord _or_ sent a letter or e-mail specifying payment to the landlord, but you can be named specifically on the eviction. My company files all evictions as, "Joe Smith & any other occupants."

The landlord can not enforce any agreement between you and the lease holder, nor hold you responsible for any rent owed by the lease holder. However, the landlord might be able to hold you partially responsible for damage to the property.
