My parents purchase property in convenient locations in nice neighborhoods but these are really old houses built in the late 19th century.

The work they do with them before renting them out seems really shoddy to me. Basically just make sure all the essential things are working even though they are aesthetically horrendous to look at and then paint the old paint over with new paint without prepping or using painter's tape.

I was wondering how you deal with maintaining your rental property. Do the bare minimum so you can at least rent it or give it your 110% or something?
