You may not be able to prevent it, but it doesn't really matter, Dum Dum. If they claim they already paid you, they were still in breach of the lease if they were late beyond the 3 day(or however long) pay-or-quit.

Go learn the law, then you won't have to ask us dumb hypotheticals!

And yes, whatever the bank says....is legal. So don't question it. Dum Dum.
