Told tenants, that I could not accomodate them because I have a waiting list of tenants wanting to move in, and that I will lose them if I extend. And that the rent control laws penalize LL for doing this also; which is true. If I do extend the move out date then they become new renters under the "RC" laws.page 357 of the Nolo "The California LL Law Book Rights and Responsibilities".
