How much to convert fuses to circuit breakers? by A.C. on July 17, 2006 @16:41

I want to change the fuses to modern circuit breakers in my two family rental. I've never had electrical work done before and I am having an electrician come tommorow to do a quote.

I'm always worried about getting overcharged ever since a carpenter replaced my front steps and charged me $600 for a job that turned out should have only cost a fraction of that.

Has anyone ever had this done? I was wondering what to expect for a cost so I'll know the electrician isn't overcharging a "greenhorn" like myself.

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!

Get at least three quotes. Electrical projects can cost a lot. We changed two boxes for around $1500 two years ago.

$1500 for conversion is about right...maybe a little high, but depends on the area. I had an estimate of $4200 to rewire a 1200sf apartment of a duplex last year. That was a major undertaking, but included the box and many grounded circuits it a very old house. Anyone know where I can get $4200? LOL
