No. Are they on a MTM or 12 month lease? What does the lease/contract say about pest control?

They are on a 12 month lease. We used the rental agreement form from the LPA site, there is no provision in it for pest control, only for repairs as below.

8. MAINTENANCE, REPAIRS OR ALTERATIONS Tenant acknowledges that the premises are in good order and repair, unless otherwise indicated herein. Tenant shall at his own expense, and at all times, maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary manner including all equipment, appliances, furniture and furnishings therein and shall surrender the same at termination hereof, in as good condition as received, normal wear and tear excepted Tenant shall be responsible for damages caused by his negligence and that of his family, invitees or guests.
• PAINT Tenant shall not paint, paper or otherwise redecorate without the prior written consent of the Owner. All paints and materials and work plans must be approved in writing by Owner or his authorized agent.
• GROUNDS Tenant shall be required to maintain any surrounding grounds. Tenant is responsible for snow and ice removal from walks, driveways, steps and any areas where safety should be observed..
• ADDITIONAL ITEMS. Should Tenant attach any fixtures, blinds or any other objects to the real property by nails, screws or glue, it is agreed that these objects will remain with the premises and be may be subject to cost of removal at Owner’s discretion Tenant is responsible for minor repairs. Repairs resulting less than $________ shall be deemed minor repairs. Should Tenant neglect maintenance responsibilities, Owner or agent may assume them on Tenant's behalf and any expenses incurred by Owner in connection therewith shall be additional rent (added rent), payable to Owner on demand.

My concern is to have someone in the unit that no longer wants to be there. We are in Washington state.

Are you kidding me? You people disgust me. I am a tenant and I have paid for Terminex to come out - it didn't help. The property management company FINALLY decided to send someone out - they have been here 3 times in the past month. They were in the bedrooms, hall closet, all sorts of places that we don't keep or eat food. We still have ants all over the kitchen counters. It's not because food has been left out, and it's not as simple as going and getting a can of raid. I am sure there are plenty of tenants who are not good people, but you can't assume everyone is lying or lazy. I'm so fed up with our ant problem, I don't know what to do. Have a little consideration for your tenant - would you like to live like that?

FYI: We moved into our apartment and 2 days later noticed a bad ant problem. Washed my floors (as I just moved in) and called the office. 2 days later they were all over my counter and crawling on my dishes as I was cooking. Not to mention on my 1 week olds daughters bottles. I called the office and they sprayed and put down ant traps. I clean every day and never have dishes out yet they continue!!! I am a super clean person so that is not the issue. They were here before I moved in. We think they are coming from a neighbors apartment! Before accusing people of being dumb or dirty you need to think intellengently and think of all possible causes... My husband has caulked, sprayed, put down traps and they continue. I still wash on a daily (somes times two or three times a day) basis. Its not me...
