Water Softener by Anonymous (Michigan) on January 15, 2010 @20:55

I recently bought a home for rental purposes and have it fixed and painted and ready to go. The house has hard water and I thought we should get a water softener. My husband is skepitcal because he doesn't believe tenants will take care of it. I ruled out a water service when I saw the price. Any thoughts?

My understanding is if your house has hard water, you plumbing will eventually plug up. It looks like one of those situations where you can pay now or pay later. If you do put in a water softener you are correct that the tenants will not take care of it. Be prepared to do it yourself.

Most of our homes have well water, some require water softners, some do not. We do provide them for those with hard water. As a landlord, I feel if I lived there and it needed a water softner for me to tolarate the water then I would provide it.
