And is there anything in this tenants background that would suggest that this would happen? I would think so...

So today on the advise of an attorney, I went back to the police station and requested to speak with the captain. Told him the story and he was so appalled that an officer from his precinct told me there was nothing he could do. Within 10 minutes I had a CRIMINAL report and a warrant was filed. This is a great website and thanks for the responses.

Hello Wizard I am extremely happy that the atty gave you the same advice I did and that was to talk to a superior officer and that he was appropriately appalled as we were here. Those responding officers need to be reprimanded for attempting to short change a citizen needing help and justice. I hope you remember their names in case you ever have to call again for any reason so as not to have to deal with them at all. Just about every cop knows(as homeowners themselves) that insurance companies won't process a theft claim without the police report number. I'm happy for you and wish you the best as the case progresses. I agree ,this is the best site for LL's needing advice and info. The collective knowledge and experience here is just awesome!
