You sound like the only one getting "worked-up" here. Your other post regarding rental consessions is appreciated but those are terms understood prior to the lease being signed. This is a case where the tenant is asking for a consession after signing on the dotted line.

So, why do you think customer service ends after signing on the dotted line? It's easy to say " I'm sorry, we do not do that." Instead, some landlords are so afraid that if they do anything, that the flood gates will open and they are at the tenants mercy! Is this because they lack customer skills in dealing with tenants?

With that logic, I should feel free to ask any business that I'm working with to just give me discounts and freebies. When they don't agree, I'll just tell them that they lack customer service skills and are providing bad customer service.

That doesn't make any sense. I know that when I sign-up for something, I don't feel entitled to get more than what I've agreed to.

That is why you pay full retail for everything you buy.

I ask for freebies all the time with the businesses I work with businesses.

If you do not ask, you do not receive. I have not paid retail prices on any applicance I bought since I became a LL. With 24 units now, I buy a lot of appliances. Menards has a pro-desk discount. Home Depot has a paint rewards program with Behr, Lowes gives me 20% discounts all the time.

    Mary,

Please tell me what you do after you say yes to this that and the other thing. Then you say no. After they are told no the become hostile and uncooporative. What then? I think that it is a slippery slope. It makes for a bad relationship with someone who feels they are entitled.

I think a gift certificate right in the get is really the best answer. Be sure you get that in the mail before you answer any requests or demands!
