You might want to check with the utility company. We are in the same situation - no lease, someone we knew, etc. The power company noted that we can have the power switched to the person occupying the home by notifying the power company. In our case they will put attach a notice to the home informing the tenant/occupier that they are not authorized and must have the power in their name and pay any applicable deposit. they will have 3 days to comply.... Check and see. But state regulations are different.
