We are curious about this a tenants who have lived in this rental for going on 13 years. The house was not painted inside before we moved in, nor was the carpet new. It still hasn't been painted and the cream colored carpet is almost impossible to keep clean anymore.

We are very clean people and the rental agency does a yearly inspection and we have brought these issues up every inspection but still no action.

We love the house and take great care of it but it is getting to the point of embarrassing with the inside not getting the attention it needs.

Hello Shaun:
I have been living in this two bedroom house for 18 years now and before I moved in the house wasn't painted nor were the carpets new. They are very old carpets and the house wasn't painted for years before I moved in. My landlord will not let me or my fiancé paint the home or help in any repairs until lately. Then he had too because our toilet was leaking and a mess was being made although I told him about the leak 10 years ago! My fiancé is a contractor and told the landlord that he would do the repairs for free and all he had to do is pay the materials, but he still refuses. And when we do paint or something he has a fit about it! But the carpets are so bad that I am going to just take them out, at least in my bedroom, and bring the oak floor back to life. I would rather have wood floors anyway. What can he do, evict me? Not likely, I am his son's mother and his ex, so he will have to deal with it because I am getting tired of dealing with him. I paid my rent on time for all the years I was single, and he knows I am a good renter and an excellent housekeeper, so he won't kick me out anytime soon.
But if I were you I would write to the owner of your home and tell him that but law you have the right to new carpets and paint. It takes a long time to be evicted, so hang in there and stand your ground.
