City Puts Eye Sore in Front of APT Building
Should I complain? And to who, and is the city allowed to do this? Someone has put one of those Trailer Vehicles with the "Your Speed is such and such" in front of my apartment building in a residential heavy traffic street. It is probably the city but there are no clear markings on the trailer. There are Orange Cones around the trailer with the city's stamp(refer to question 4) .
1 It is an eye sore 2 I currently am trying to rent out the unit and this can scare some prospective tenants 3 This vehicle takes away parking space (parking space is a premium in this location) 4 A local parking enforcement officer told me in the past that it was not legal to place orange cones around your vehicle in this very spot. So is it legal for the city to do so?

Of course it's legal. You can check with your local police or sheriffs departments as it probably one of theirs. City vehicles are exempt from laws restricting parking for the public.
Go ahead and complain, you will soon be faced with someone getting the word at city hall who will have 'no parking' signs installed in front of your rental property. You do realize that you do not control the public right of way don't you? It should be gone in a week as they move them about. Obviously the city/police feel that too many people speed along the road there, maybe some of your tenants or perhaps you?

You should treat this as a GOOD thing. This shows your Ts that the city is making THEIR street safer for them and their children. And Bill is right. it's only temparary.

I'd just call them up and tell them you're so happy they're enforcing the speed limit on your street - yay! But, you would like to know if it would be possible for them to put it somewhere else, as your units need the street parking, or how long it will be there. Play nice. You may need these guys on your side at another time.
Option B: just move it next door in the middle of the night :-)
