Hiring Assistants - Landlord Forum thread 335298

Hiring Assistants by Robin on May 21, 2015 @09:56

Because this is such a specialized work environment, creating an application for a part-time assistant has been challenging. Does anyone have a solid template for an employment application for a personal assistant?

I do not have an application at all.

I ask for a complete resume.

Generally, I find people who might work out...they do not find me. I do not advertise.

A lot depends on what you want the person for. I have a friend in the business..and her assistant also drives her everywhere so she can be on the phone and computer getting other things done during the commutes

I look for handymen in places like the hardware and plumbing stores I frequent. I talk to lots of people... Everyone wants to tell you their story and their accomplishments, I tell them to give me their number..I might have work for them. I'll try them out on one or two small things...just to check them out. Keep them in mind when I need to replace one of my current guys.

Make sure to run the same checks on a potential employee that you would for a tenant, especially a criminal background check.

Handymen will have access to your properties, which means they will have access to the tenant's home and belongings.

Admin assistants will have access to your files, and therefore will have access to sensitive tenant information including dates of birth, social security numbers, and bank accounts.

As their employer, you are responsible for the actions of anyone acting as your employee or agents. Do your due diligence and keep yourself (and your tenants) protected.
