I talk and write about the declining financial status of our senior citizens and how housing will become a much more severe problem in the years to come. Here's an ad on Craigslist that I just saw. Food for thought.
PLEASE HELP! room needed for older man (Atascadero)
Looking for any kind of room for a 65 year old man, who has become HOMELESS, even tho he has some money. He is very quiet, single, no smoking, no drinking, no loud music, no animals. Needs to be close to main streets for bus use, as he doesn't drive. He can pay max of $600, but that must include ALL utilities. It can be a really small room, nothing fancy. Just need room for a small bed, chair & dresser. Must have private bathroom that can be small. Older is fine. He is receiving Social Security disability, and income can be verified & proved. He has become homeless, and ANYTHING would help. It's hard to find a room now for $600/mo to include all utilities, which has made him homeless, so I'm hoping someone WILL HELP! It can be small, older, ANYTHING. Please call me if you have anything at all. Even if there's something in the business sections that have a room with a bathroom & shower. Thanks! Prefer Atascadero, if possible, but will consider any area. A room in a senior mobile home park would be perfect.

I would take a tenant like that in my 1-bedroom condos or MIL in a heartbeat! I can understand that if he's in NYC or somewhere like that, he won't find anything for that price, but in the midwest it would be no problem.
