Look at the abandonment laws for your state. Post a 24 hour notice to enter, and then check the refrigerator. Is the milk expired? Food left untouched? Are there bed linens on any of the beds? Are the utilities shut off?
My state, it takes seven days from when they leave to declare abandonment, and change the locks. If you change the locks before then, leave a note for them to contact you for the new key.
Neighbor not seeing them means you need to get over there, and check to make sure no pets were left behind, water left running, etc.

the water company came and shut off the water. I assume they moved out. I will be checking today.
