Collection agencies - Landlord Forum thread 339516

Collection agencies by allyson on October 6, 2015 @13:56

I am in PA. Does anyone have any experience with collection agencies for deadbeats debts/damages? Specifically do I need a judgement to be able to utilize one; I have a couple of previous tenants I tried going thru civil complaint but of course in PA the magistrate requires that the defendants notification be documented by requiring signing for the letter which of course no one does - comes back as "unclaimed" even though the security deposit letter never comes back as undeliverable or no longer there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Deadbeats have no money.....collection agency won't touch it. If you want to get your judgement hire a process server to hunt them down and get the signature. It may be illegal for them to refuse under those circumstances.
