You can ask the name and the relationship. Then you can ask for their FICO score. If it is less than 675 say goodbye.

    In NY state, LL can ask the relation ship - LL cannot refuse addition of a new renter to the lease if he /she is of the immediate family - child, mother, father, wife, husband.

    In this case, LL must write another lease, including the new renter. For doing so, LL must ask the new applicant to file an application. If the application does not follow LL criteria in matter of wages, salary, smoking/drug, or past renting issues, it will be a problem.

    I do not know how all this is working in CA
