if you noticed the leak and you know you have to pay for the water then you should have shut it off and not let it keep running .... you was there ... you was using the water .... not the property owner .... pay for the water and learn a good lesson

You cannot shut off the water and maintain a livable space at the same time. This is in breach of any real contract. You would then be at fault for failing to provide a livable space and would be in breach of the contract.
