Hi, we own a 2 family rental in ma. I know we are legally responsible for snow removal, but can we make an agreement with tenants for them to shovel stairs and walkway? We would pay, or deduct from rent. Also what's a fair price to pay/deduct? Thanks!

You would still be liable for slips and falls. If the snow got shoveled it is unlikely that it would be in a timely way like you would expect.

You can make any kind of an agreement you wish with your T. It's no different than hiring a large snow removal company do it. And with a large company, you never know if you will be first, last, or somewhere in the middle on their client list Call some companies to see what they would charge, and go from there. A fair price is whatever both parties can agree to.

Here is some information on what is required by the landlord for snow removal. Appears what you have in mind might be illegal. Any way, you do not want the tenants getting injured trying to clear the snow. Would your insurance cover them if injured? Would they be considered employees?
