I agree with those who say to wait a couple days while trying to recontact them. You already spent time and money on screening them. A little effort to reel them in over going back to screening others seems like the thing to do.

However, this also ties into the idea of NOT telling any other potential tenants that the unit is rented until it is actually signed and rented. You just might need to call some of these others and you don't want it to sound like they were second/third choice.
