The information that's missing here is whether this person paid a holding fee.

If they already paid money to hold the place until lease signing, then disappeared, that's a bit weird. Something bad could have happened to them. Make an effort to find out what happened.

If they didn't put money down any I wouldn't spend another minute on them.

They didn't pay for anything other than their credit check...'tis weird! Moving on!
