Did you attempt to take the old tenant to court?
Why not just get some bleach and clean the mold? Charge the cleaning against the security deposit.
You spent far more time than the 5 minute sit would take to clean the wall.

It's because we're only hearing half the story. The judge didn't believe that the damage was caused by the tenant. There's probably a leak behind there and the judge wasn't going to stick the tenant with it.

As I said in a few other replies, there was no leak or moisture in the wall, which was documented with photos and testimony from my handyman. Cleaning with bleach would not have solved the problem as the mold had moved through the wall to the other side and had gotten into the insulation.

What specifics did the judge cite as to why he ruled in favor of the tenants. Did you handle their security deposit in accordance with your state law?
We are missing information here - specifically what exactly happened in court.
